Weekly Update February 18, 2019

Vail Pride Day is February 16!  Vail Innovation Center will be participating the parade this year. We hope to see all of our families attend and march proud with us. The parade will start at 4:00 at the fairgrounds. We will have signs to carry, props to wear and spirit to be brought! Meet us at the east door of Thurber Hall at 3:45 to march with VIC! All students participating will earn two graphic organizer passes. If they are wearing a VIC or VBL shirt, they will earn an additional pass.

Good luck to all of our Academic Jeopardy and Math Bowl participants on Vail Pride Day. Please join us to root them on. Kinler, Maddy, Katelyn, Henry, Jasmine, Gabby, Avery, Ethan, Adam, Libby, Stephen, Benjamin, Rose and Anneliese!

A great big thank you to Viva Coffee House for their sponsorship this year. They will be donating 20% of their sales at VPD to VIC.

What do we need? Box Tops and Disinfecting wipes. Thank you for any and all you are willing to donate.

Social Media and Your Child

Recent research is showing an increase in anxiety and depression with children who spend time on social media. I recently watched a TedTalk on this subject and found it to be an excellent way to start a conversation with your child. If you choose to share it with them I would very much like to hear your feedback.

Benchmark Testing will be on February 26th, 27th and March 5th. Please don’t schedule any appointments on these mornings. Students will be testing from 9-11:30 a.m. each of these days.  If you know your child will be missing one of these days, please contact Mrs. Murray to make alternate testing arrangements. Thank you for your support.

AZMERIT and AIMS Testing will be on April 3, 4, 11, 15-18. Please don’t schedule any appointments on these mornings. Students will be testing from 9-12:30 p.m. each of these days.  If you know your child will be missing one of these days, please contact Mrs. Murray to make alternate testing arrangements. Thank you for your support.

Field Trip – March 8th

We will be traveling to the Pima Air and Space Museum.

The Pima Air & Space Museum is one of the largest non-government funded aviation and space museums in the world! Featuring over 350 historical aircrafts, from a Wright Flyer to a 787 Dreamliner. Sitting on 80 acres the museum opened its doors to the public in May of 1976. Over the past forty years, the museum has grown immensely and today encompasses six indoor exhibit hangars (three dedicated to WWII). The cost for this trip will be $5. All parent chaperones are welcome to join us for no charge.
